Fire Compartmentation
Fire Compartmentation is an important part of Passive Fire Protection.
What is fire compartmentation?
Fire Compartmentation is an important part of Passive Fire Protection. Providing compartmentation to current Building Regulation and British Standards requirements involves sub-dividing buildings into manageable areas of risk, thereby preventing the spread of fire, smoke and toxic gases and providing valuable time to evacuate the building.
What we do
On completion of a Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) and a Fire Compartmentation Survey, we will attend site and carry remedial works on all the areas identified as fire breaches. This could involve sealing cable trays, data and electrical cables, water and gas pipes and aircon ducting which are penetrating the fire wall with no fire stopping applied.
We only use approved materials and processes for carrying out this work. On completion of the remedial works an IFC Certificate of compliance will be issued together with material data sheets.
More Information
Compartmentation is achieved by dividing the premises into ‘fire compartments’ by:
-
fire doors
-
floors and walls of fire-resisting materials and construction
-
cavity barriers within roof voids
-
installing a fully tested fire stopping system to ensure services such as cables, ducts and pipe work are sealed where they breach compartment walls and floors.
